Dozens of people have been killed in a new wave of anti-government protests in the Ethiopian city of Bahir Dar. Two of the countries biggest ethnic groups in the states of Oromia and Amhara are leading the protests. Amnesty International says 30 people were killed in the wider Amhara region and another 67 died in violence in Oromia in central western Ethiopia. Oromo rights activist Hassen Hussein told Al Jazeera that the demonstrations could get more violent.

At least seven people have been killed during fresh clashes between police and anti-government protesters in western Ethiopia, where the unrest has reached the capital, Addis Ababa, for the first time. It was called by opposition groups from the Oromo ethnic group calling for release of political prisoners.
