Bagmati River was polluted due to garbages, drainage and waste materials that were inserted to the river. Earlier, Bagmati was clean and clear where people used to bath but since few years people were not touching water also due to pollution. But due to an initiation of cleaning Bagmati which started around ten years ago has took a good turn where now Bagmati has became so clean that people have started bathing. Although all areas of Bagmati is not clean but major Pashupati areas Bagmati is clean now. Today, Jal Jatra has been celebrated for having clean Bagmati where many tourists, Nepali and celebrities celebrated by travelling in Bagmati at boat.
